Bonsai Newbie - Bought Some Potential Candidates, All Ideers Welcome

Hello, I've recently got enthralled with bonsai as a result of a neighbour giving me a 'japanese fig'? (or ficus?). Since then I bought one serissa, and then a few other inexpensive nursery stock plants.

I've been reading lots and now it's time to get my hands dirty enjoyably

I just posted up pics to my gallery and ideas on styling/pruning etc are most welcome on any of the candidates (white pine, hinoki, any potential in that azalea?, japanese cedar 'elegans').

Hopefully the ones I've chosen/bought have some potential and I'll enjoy them as a fun start to this new hobby I'm entering.

any and all ideas welcomePS I live very close to a river/near the ocean so we rarely see freezing and humidity is generally higher during winter (ie. some pruning etc may be OK in winter??)
<dead links deleted, see pics below>

Thanks in advance!

Dear Happy G,

Unfortunately, the image links above are broken because the photos of bonsai stock you posted to the ***MUSEUM*** were removed. The museum is for show trees and stones, pots for virtuals and member photos.

You are welcome to attach pictures of stock to messages in the forum by clicking the Post Reply or New Thread buttons. Then there will be a tool to upload photos.

I apologize, but it is necessary that we keep the areas distinct so that visitors to the forum can enjoy the finest bonsai we have to offer in an uncluttered environment.

Regards,

Matt

my apologies

I obviously erred. I thought I had just gone to 'my gallery' and posted these pictures up. I'll look into it futher to see where best to locate them, I'd wanted to have them in an album to later post progressive pics if possible.

Thanks for the fix.

Hinoki Cypress Chamecyparis obtusa, compact fan-like growth and interesting truck IMO. Likely good time to prune now? Sealing required where branches removed? any/all ideas welcome

Small Azalea I picked up, at first I liked the trunk structure and now I'm undecided if this is suitable for bonsai....most azalea bonsai I subsequently looked up were all single trunk. Perhaps it would still look fine multi trunk or I can slice it vertically to separate trunk's and creat two plants? Or just remove one major branch..or develop as is??

-any and all ideers welcome

I believe this is Firethorn (PYRACANTHA coccinea??, white flowers/red berries, and v. sharp thorns) , we've had it for about 3 or 4 yrs, last winter it nearly died and I cut off over 1/2 of it's height and far more so of it's branches. This summer it recovered more than I expected and now I'm thinking it could be fun to bonsai as an upright Xmas tree overall shape with a lot of branch thinning. Lower right old trunk cutoff has new growth and might have some interesting potential?? Can I top the trunk again and train in a branch to create a nice taper?

all ideas welcome!
