Australian tree species, and worth digging up?

Found this tree about 1.2m high with a rather old looking base of trunk. Not sure on the species and looking for advice as to whether its worth attempting to Bonsai.

Leave it be, I'm sure you can find better bonsai material than that.

Not trying to be negative, but don't take a chance on it's life just to get a bonsai speciman. There are better specimens than that for sure.

dig it up looks like a nice peice of material to try. i love to see aussy natives as bonsai. make sure you get as much rootball as possible for better chances of survival. natives have touchy roots so be carefull, begin diging from about 30- 40 centermetres around the trunk dig down as deep as u can then rock the tree so as to locate anymore remaining roots then once chopped through cut the taproot and try to keep as much as you can. its best in the first year not to wash the saoil away from the roots do it 2 yrs after collection and it has rested and put out plenty of feeder roots.

cheers jarryd

I'm not sure what the species is, so I'll defer whether or not its justifiable to use as bonsai (pre-)material. If I understand correctly though, you're headed into fall. I'd wait til spring to do ANY digging if you decide to collect this one though. Fall collecting is possible, but spring collecting is easier. Spend the winter figuring out what species you're dealing with.
