Airlayering a Black Olive

I just notice that near my apartment there is a 13' black olive, wich is good because I can get new trees from there.
I was looking on the internet how much care I should take on a airlayer on this tree. What I found is that this tree is hard to propagate, no hard wood cuttings and a small posibilty of softwood cuttings, that are no bigger than 2 inches.
I just never founded anything about airlayers, wich is unconforting because is looks that the only ways is softwood cutting or seeds.
That would be like 8 years to get a nice and thick trunk tree.

Had someone made an airlayer on this type of tree? How it goes? How much care?

Aditional question: black olive are fast or low growing trees?

Thanks for the help

LinK, I tried last night to find evidence that someone had air layered a bucida, and came up without information. I did find one link that suggested that the other bucida (not spinosa, started with a "b") had been air layered successfully, but only that one link.

The only one that I know of that has successfully air layered one is the late Jim Moody.

But even he advised against trying. Too little a success rate.

I have about 6 of the ones that he was successful in doing. Beautiful trees.

I do think that if he had the devil getting them to air layer it is of no use for me to try it. He was the expert in them.

Cuttings are a different story. Not all that hard to do. Just takes forever to grow a trunk from them. Only time will thicken up that spindly trunk. And it does take a lot of that time ;o(

Cuttings, sure, if they are softwood cuttings. Softwood cuttings that are not bigger that a few inches.
And as you told, Take forever to grow trunk, and also take forever to grow roots.

I was repoting one of my blackolive and I found that he didn't grew noticeable his roots since the last repot.

Do you guys recommend inmersion for this guys during summer?
