Mo's little pond

What the heck. Thought I'd post a pic of my small goldfish pond beside our deck. It's not much, but it makes me happy.

Very Nice Mo....
They can be soooo relaxing to sit and admire. Do you have any Koi or only Goldfish?
I wanted to put one in this summer but I opted instead to put a heating system in the house. Hopefully next summer.... Sometimees we have to prioritise.

Thanks for the compliments. Wolfus, it only has goldfish in it. They were the "starter" fish for the pond and...well, they're still the only residents. Had it eight years and have only added three purchased fish. They keep spawning, so the wife and I just let them do their thing. Sadly, the last "original" fish passed on this summer. Not too bad I guess for outdoor living.

I added a nice little pagoda to the area with the juniper down in front to add a little more asian appeal.

Next spring, I plan on trying an air layer off that maple on the right.

I think I have that same pond - at least from the same family. Is it a Fiberglas liner?

Regards,

Matt

Nah, the pond is free form, although I'll admit the shape is very generic. It's lined with 45 mil EPDM (I had to reline it last summer because I used something cheap the first time). I hope not to have to reline the sucker for many years to come.

By the way, if anybody has a small pond—less than say 300 square feet—and you are having troubles with egrets taking your fish, you might look into a device some call a "scarecrow". (You can see it in the lower right of the picture if you look hard.) It's a motion sensing water sprinkler head that sprays a three-second blast of water when it senses movement. You hook it up to a regular garden hose.

Here I am, living in the city (no where near a large body of water), and have this tiny little pond, and an egret robs me of five fish before I figure out what's going on. Guess it's like a fish McNuggets meal to him. Haven't lost one fish since getting this gem. As an added bonus, it also pisses off the meterman when he comes to read the meter and I forget to turn it off.

I'd buy one just for that purpose. *evil grin*

Nice pond. Good for you putting goldies in. I wouldn't recommend koi as they will grow quite big for your pond. Also good Idea to have the edges raised as it does not allow any run off to happen into pond.. Glad you enjoying your pond
