I'm sure the fish are fine. Koi and goldfish can survive under a layer of ice as long as the the entire pond isn't frozen solid from top to bottom.

They always survive... Ocasionally you find a dead fish or a frog, or dead snails in the spring.

I hope to one day soon live somewhere where such information would be rendered useless. I could survive quite well without ice and snow i feel, or perhaps this is just my annual february rant as start getting itchy for spring.
