Big Smile Centipede Upstages Master Pall!!!

I loved the videos. Thank you very much. I loved the outcome of the two trees. I am glad that Walter took the hornbeam down to bare bones. I am trying to get out of the "instant show piece habit". The other dancing couple tree made me drool.
(the camera person has a sense of humor catching the centipede on the wall!)
Thank you again for giving the forum these treasures!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching these video clips, and such nice material. I tried to look up Phillyrea in my Sunset Garden book to no avail. I guess it isn't native to Philadelphia like I had hoped .

Thank you for sharing this wonderful resource.

Great stuff. For what it's worth, Walter did what was required to get this tree into shape. He didn't really take it down to nothing. He reduced it to what are it's basic bonsai "bones." This process it typical for first styling of deciduous trees and can be quite shocking for those who haven't ever done it. Decidous trees can take quite a big reduction at styling time and they can be handled a bit more drastically than conifers.

This tree will work out to be a very nice bonsai in a few years, as the branches fill out.

I agree. Sometimes, you have to do what it takes to get back on the right track.
