Species-Specific Books
There are a few exceptional books I'm familiar with that fit into this category:
Bonsai Today Master Series: Pines Bonsai Today Master Series: Junipers Bonsai with Japanese Maples by Peter Adams The Art of Bonsai Design by Colin Lewis (Junipers, Pines, Larches, & Elms) Are there any other bonsai books out there that focus on one (or just a few) particular species?

I know there is a book on Satsuki Azaleas.
http://www.stonelantern.com/azalea/index.html Ficus: http://www.stonelantern.com/books/bbficus.html Also, for more info on J. Maples, there's a book, a big hefty thing, called just Japanese Maples, by Vertrees and Gregory. It's not about JM as bonsai specifically, but it has some *great* info.

Hi kompik,
Have you checked out other books by Peter Adams? I have The Art of Flowering Bonsai by Adams. It has care info. for several different flowering species, but much of the book is spent on general bonsai creation. I used to have one on deciduous trees by Adams that I liked. Steve Pilacik's book on JBP is good. It's not a big book, but it has lots of info on developing JBP. It's about $15. Hope this helps, Myrtle |

Thanks Myrtle.
Adams was one of my early favorite bonsai writers, and his "Flowering" book was the first one of his I came across. I particularly liked his drawings (though I now believe Koreshoff has him beat in this department) and the time he spent discussing the aesthetic decisions involved in bonsai styling. I own a copy of <u>The Art of Bonsai</u> and if I ever decided to work with flowering plants I'd pick up a copy "Flowering" in a heartbeat. I hadn't heard of Pilacik's JBP book, so that's good to know about!

This is a little off topic, but the book by Thomas Pakenham, Meetings with Remarkable Trees is a must have IMO. It has nothing to do with bonsai, just loads of pictures of amazing old trees. I never get tired of looking at this one.
