Now Now folks lets not get all twisted up over this. We don't need to start suggesting that people need to fly a kite as it were.

But to answer the question about what is new. Well I guess I tried to give an example with the Visions of my Soul book. You see what sets it apart is that it is distinctly a vision of Robert Stevens soul. As you roll through the pages you definetely get a sense of what his vision is. He gives you a new perspective, his own.
One without a trained eye would be able to tell the difference between his trees and anyone elses.

This shohin book could have been done resizing much larger bonsai pictures taken out of practically any other beginners book and one wouldn't be any the wiser. I think a great oppurtunity was lost by not showing us "the goods".

BonsaiAl1,
Thanks for the examples of good shohin books. Maybe next Christmas when the wife asks what I want, I'll get a couple of his books. And just think I won't have to wait 4 months for 'em.

I do have the complete set of 10 on hand as well as many other shohin bonsai items (books, DVDs, containers, tools). This isn't my primary income, but more of meeting of a need. The criteria I use is exactly as Al phrased it - yes, they're written in Japanese, but you'd have to be a "dunderhead" not to understand what's going on (at least with the books and DVDs). I've been doing shohin bonsai for some time now and if I wouldn't use it or want it, I'm not going to offer it to others.

I do apologize for not having the site to the point it should be, but feel free to drop me a note (dsp@miniature-bonsai.com). I would also recommend visiting http://www.american-shohin.org - home of the recently created American Shohin Bonsai Association, a full-fledged 501c(3) non-profit dedicated to the education and enhancement of shohin bonsai in the US/Americas.

Kindest Regards to All and mea culpas to those who take offense to this somewhat commercial post.

No offense taken here Shohin Master. Those of us in the South are used to you Northern folk and all your carpetbagging.

(Dont anyone get all flustered here. I consider Dave a good friend and just busting chops.)

Dennis! Good to see your ASCII here! Hope you, the trees, and all else is doing well and enjoying SC! Always welcome a good chop busting from a good friend who makes a mean nickel-silver root hook (that I still use regularly). :-)

Take care, bud .. keep in touch!
Best~
