I'm a bit confused about the number of kokufu albums that has been released. In 2006 the 80th book will be for sale, but as far as I understand the exhibition started in 1934 and there were no shows during the 2. world war? Then there sholuld be no more than about 70 exhibitions so far. Does anyone know anything about this? Has there been several exhibitions some years? Rune

This suiseki site suggests there was a precursor dating back to 1927, so maybe that works out closer to 80 albums if you leave out a couple wartime shows?

I just read in an old issue of international bonsai (1986/2)that during the first few years after word war 2 there weren't published an exhibition album due to the economic situation, I think the history of the kokufu exhibition is very interesting (I hope Bill reads this ) Rune

Posts: 18	I just read in a book called Bonsai of the world I published by World Bonsai Friendship federation in 1993 that there was heldt 2 kokufu ten exhibitions every year from 1934 till 1942. It resumed again in 1947 after the war.That fills in a lot of the gaps in the list made by Robert Baron, but it also contradicts some of the information there that he got from Bonsai Today, No. 24, pg. 11. I would think that the info given in Bonsai of the world I should be quite accurate as it has been written by Kazuya Morita and the editorial staff of Nippon Bonsai association. This was news to me. I hope some of you find it interesting as well Rune

I'm very impressed by the enormous work you have done on listing all the bonsai litterature on your web page. I don't have more input ( for now) but I do have a question. In an earlier post I said that I have read in International bonsai 1986/2 that the first few exhibitions after the war (1947- 194x) there weren't published an album of the trees in the exhibition. Do you know anything about this? btw: There is a photo of kokufu exhibitionm no 4 (1935) in Bonsai of the world I. Rune Kyrdalen Norway

The first can be seen at www.phoenixbonsai.com/Days/Kokufuten.html. My 1986/2 issue of International Bonsai has been misplaced right this minute so I can't comment specifically about what the article says, but possibly the albums were thinner than usual? I should be seeing _Bonsai of the World I_ within the next few days, courtesy of Bill. No problem regarding my last name: it has been pronounced and spelled every way you can imagine. Same pronunciation as "baron" except with 2 a's instead.
