Thumbs up If Your In Need Of A Great Bonsai Book

I have just purchased a great book from Border's book store. Its a Reader's Digest Home Handbook by Harry Tomlinson. Its a great book for beginners like me. For $16.00 the book is loaded with 216 pages of information that can get you on your way to becoming a great bonsai artist. It explains the art of bonsai, has an a-z of bonsai species chapter, tells you how to create a bonsai, propagating bonsai, maintaining bonsai, and a dictionary of trees and shrubs for bonsai. They do step by step dicrections with pictures on a lot of styles like bunjin, broom style, saikei, styling on a rock, group planting, and so much more but its to much for me to explain. So if you are looking for a book this is the one.

Here's the link for RD Home Handbooks' Bonsai at amazon. You can read several pages online.

You'll also find a similar value in the Simon & Schuster guide to bonsai, which has a nice species overview.

There is a sale combination for the two together for $22.40 running.

Regards,

Matt.

The book I would reccomend is Bonsai Techniques 1 by John Naka.

Be warned;

it isn't pretty

but the diagrams are clear and easy to understand. If I had to suggest one book to buy this would be it.

Count me with you, Saint. What is so very, very cool about the book you recommend is that it brings John Naka into the room with you. Naka is one of a kind and a very, very special person.

HI!

I had borrowed Harry Tomlinson - The complete book of bonsai, and it was a very good book also it had also a huge directory of trees and the main things about them. I tried to buy that book but the printing was finished couple of years ago. When is that book first edition published, because I am pretty keen on it if it's as good as you say.

I'am now reading Deborah R. Koreshoffs - Bonsai Its Art, Science, History and Philosophy and that is also a very good book a massive 252 pages tell very much about different styles and about propagation technicues, but it does't tell much about different trees. These two books complete each others at least if RD is like The complete book of bonsai

PS:The Deporah R. Koreshoffs book is maybe for people whit a more experiment than I do but any knowledge doesn't harm you or at least I think so

Dear All:
You have all named the books that I have in my library and have read them more than once...

I am currently studying (for the thirdtime) a Book by a New Zealander author, Dave Hunt. The book is called, "Challenging Bonsai". It is quite fascinating and informative. There are no colored photos, but black and white diagrams.

I believe that Mr. Hunt self-published this book. The ISBN # 0.473.04720.9

Its a great book, but if you've already got that, don't get 101 Bonsai tips by the same publisher. Its the same book watered down. I bought that book and was given 101 bonsai tips.
