Bonsai Today Subscriptions

Does anyone here get the actual print magazine? Whats it like? Is it worth the price? Do you get access to the online pages as well (when its up and running)?

SSOooooooooooo worth it!!!

The online thing is not connected with the subscirption at all.

But if you are really even thinking of being serious about your pursuit of bonsai, get the subscription.
The perfect gift for Chrismachanukwanzadan!

Yea i'll second that... the magazine makes great reading and study material. My only grip is the lack of American "masters" everything seems more Eastern... Oh yea and the shipment was held up in customs a few months ago, so there was a delay getting the mag. but no biggie.

I've been getting the magazine from the start. If nothing else it gives you great bonsai reading material.

With it's new owner, you also get 8 more pages and it's printed in the USA instead of Spain.

I highly recommend it. 6 issues for $48.00 US. That's 2 dinners out at a restaurant. Not even that these days.

One hopes this resolves the delays. But it's always been worth the wait!

As far as American/Western artists, Wayne has been putting a big effort into getting them in, but since Japan produces so much in the way of fine bonsai and published material to make use of, that is still the bulk of the magazine.

He has had some editorials about "wake up America!" so to speak. And you can find western artists in every issue to some extent.

But you sure could do worse than reading about Japanese artist. At the very least, if you don't like their "neoclassical," "cookie-cutter," "oil-spill-root" trees, the techniques are worthy of reading.

The magazine is now printed in the US, so importing delays should go away. The publisher also had to opt for a slightly smaller size with the changes to US printing apparently. That's what the editorial in the latest issues says, anyway.

Ahh see being away at college i haven't touched any issue since the summer. It's good to know that the delays should go away, not like it matters much to me since i just steal my pop's back issues when i'm home.

The magazine is a walking bonsai update. You will run into techniques you may not have known, or new techniques nobody knows. It contains the best translations of the best the Japanese have to offer as well as material form some of the better European growers. Occassionally there are some American artists featured. You can depend on the publication to showcase subjects that you might not find anywere else.
