Book Bonsai Library

I don't know why but I had never had the curiosity of looking for bonsai books on the College library until today.
Don't know why? I always knew that it was the best College that teach agriculture on the country.
Damn I am so stupid.
Now I am happy, now I have so much to read and to learn.

Hi Link,

I think the local library is quite often overlooked as a source of bonsai literature by many people, particularly those new to the art. I was guilty of this too. I mean, you wouldn't think of looking in a library for books now would you?

Although I've bought around 10 books in total so far, some, such as "Bonsai Design - Japanese Maples" by Peter D. Adams cost a fortune as they are out of print and have been for many years. I've seen it listed for nearly $300 US. I've seen it go on eBay a few times for $150 US. That's way out of my budget and a lot of peoples I should imagine.

Fortunately I found a copy at my local library and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The information therein was really useful and I learnt a great deal about growing and training the species and how they respond to techniques. Its always nice if you can afford to buy your own books, as you can come back to them for reference at any time, but if you can't, the library is the next best thing.

All the best,

Aaron

Your local library is also a good source for books on indigenous plant species. Although not strictly books specific to bonsai, they hold a wealth of information on growth habits, trunk, bark, leave and root structures; and soil, water and climate needs of these trees and plants. Lots of pretty pictures of trees in their natural environment for ideas. Love ‘em…

Peter Adams book was "missing" from the library when I last looked. Seem somebody else noticed how much it was worth. I hope that at least whomever stole it kept it and used it.

That's a great shame. It's a very good book with which is now denied to the general public due to somones selfish actions. I hope they see the error of their ways and return the "missing" literature.

All the best,

Aaron
