Cool Reference

Well, this is just a point of reference when these (unfamiliar) terms are used in further replies, rather than repeating the definitions time after time. Think of it as a thread-specific FAQ, OK?

At the risk of embarassing myself, I have built my own small app in Access for the windows users that are interested. I would be willing to share if anyone wants to email me, I'd be glad to send you a copy. One size would definitely not fit all, but it might be a good starting point for others. It mainly allows the following: entering new trees, copying - pasting large amounts of text for care notes for various tree types (from articles Ive found on the net - sure beats typin) entering in general care/progress notes for each tree, cost, size, age, entering in seasonal notes for all or specific trees. Etc.

Keep in mind this is NOT a professional finished project, I did it quick and in a way that works for me. It allows me to quickly track what I have done on a certain tree, review the hx and know what has /hasnt worked for me. I didnt include a way to import images, it was more convenient for me to save photos in my photo dir which is already highly organized. There are some gotchas with importing images in to access, but one of the easiest ways is to build a table that allows the filename path to be linked to a particular tree (this would of course vary among different users but a quick google search would provide even the unitiated with the directions on how to do so) This would prevent the size of the app from exploding and is only a suggestion. But depending on the user, thats one quick and easy way of linking your photos back to a particular tree.

Anyone interested shoot me a line, its in acc2000 if you need it in 97 format let me know. And please be easy on your opinions on it - I built this in 30 minutes because it fit my schedule and my needs - if it doesnt meet yours then dont yell at me! If it does, or if you have some ideas on how to improve let me know. If there is sufficient interest I might could devote some extra time to create a more finished product.

Please, never be embarrassed of your best efforts. That is the reason bonsai newbies like us can feel free to show our efforts to date, knowing that we will receive only helpful comments and guidance.
