Hi Brian

With the fertilizing period, Can they be multiple selected?
I fertilise with Liquid fertilizer every fortnight except in the deep winter months. usually for about 9 months of the year so will need to select multiple options you give

All the rest looks fine to me

Ken

The fixed lists are fine, but it would be great if beside them somewhere there was a small box that people could make a not in or get more specific if they so choose to. Like I would select maximum light and then in the boxed area write about how the tree desires full sun except when temps reach a certain high. I hope this makes sense.

I am wondering why I need all these fixed lists. A comments field would be fine.

Probably someone stumbled on this poll completely out of context and has no idea what it means and what you're trying to do with the data.

Regards,

Matt

Brian, Thanks for all your hard work on this, but let me reiterate my comment on the software thread. I am no software engineer, but bonsai are so variable that I think the simplest way to handle these is to have each heading with a comments box. The greater the number of fixed lists, the less flexible I see the software becoming.

I want something that does a good job of letting me organize my photos and find them easily, and keep notes on what I have been doing with that tree.

OK, a few reasons, in increasing levels of importance.

AXIOM - "Every character we type is another opportunity to introduce a typographicul erur"

Comment fields are nice for review, but horrible things to use when selecting or sorting data records.

Multiple instances of storing the "same" value is inefficient and increases the probability of data errors.

Sorting by a textual
(ie - user entered) non-key value will return inconsistent results, very slowly, often resulting in unexpected and undesired output record order.

Selecting on a non-textual key value will return consistent values, quickly, resulting
in only desirable records being selected.

OK?

Pencil Simplest? Maybe...

That is the easiest way. But if you want consistency, having your system act as a reminder and comparison system, and the ability to track larger numbers of bonsai easily, this is a better way to go (really).

Actually, quite the opposite. The lists consist of things that are very likely consistent and constant, regardless of your particular bonsai collection.

That may not be easy to perceive at this point, but that is exactly what this system is designed to do. No more, no less, and with great flexibility and few hassles. Give me time to get through the unit tesing, and you will see, OK?
