Database/Design/ICT Experience

Folks, it has come to light in the End User Testing thread that there are quite a few people on the boards with experience in Databases/ICT/Design of such... This is great!! I have set up this thread so that those with this kind of experience can have their input in a more tecchie manner. This has purely been done to make sure that people with and without this experience get the right responses.

Please feel free to post here if you have any relevant experience.

Cheers
Rowan

(P.s. Brian, i think you need to empty your PM box, let me know if this post is OK)

Cool Form Design

Illusive,

How about your helping with designing layout of the two primary (and most complex) forms? specifically, containers and specimens. first, read what has been previously written about them. then ask questions (I expect a lot of them). post iterations of form layouts (in a new thread), and get feedback from the users. Then,u & I will discuss, here. keep doing this until everyone is sufficently satisfied (some people will never be happy, or ask for the near impossible).

Hi Brian. I am kind of lost here .. Can you give me a quick link to a screenshot of the forms? I am afraid I am lacking in time and I would prefer designing the forms than searching for them. Or I can download a beta and suggest an overall design concept in a new thread. Actually that would be better for me since fragmentary design is not as easy as it seems. Do you have a beta online? Have you solved the problem with the buttons appearing bigger is Access 2007? If not I could show the problem to a friend who is quite adept in all things Access..
Cheers

Illusive, Brian is taking a bit of a break due to illness, the information you want is below:

Form Screenshot Thread

The current BETA release for the DB can be found at the link in Brians Signature. I think that Brian may have sorted the images being too big but i dont know if it is included in the current BETA.

Cheers
Rowan

No. Designing the forms is what I am being challenged with. What I can do is provide a snapshop of the desired search capabilities, a prototype of the cultivars form (only part of the data required), a form relationships diagram (see reply#5), and a database relationship diagram (see attachment), my list of fields I think should be displayed (other attachment).

I've also uploaded the text of the SQL Select string as well as the image of the Access SQL Design.

Ask questions, Decide for yourself. That is why I am "sub-contracting" this effort to you. Start a new thread, get feedback from users. I will oversee and comment.

I think that I've solved it, but am not sure, since I have not been able to reliably reproduce the problem. I always appreciate another knowledgeable set of eyes. Please have him/her download the currently released beta and take a look at things, especially the buttons. Let me know, OK. Thanks.

I'm done typing for today, too much pain.. Sorry.

I am going to be posting something soon. Just letting you know that the link on your signature does not work.. I think my beta is a bit old and I wouldnt want to design outdated forms. Anyway. There's lots to be done. Hope you feel better soon.
