Forum Signatures - Usage Guidelines
  1. Forum Members can add a signature element (sig) that will appear beneath their posts. The signature is typically used for a closing greeting, or a link to a personal website, or quote of interest. You can modify your sig in your UserCP.
  2. TIP: Whenever you update your sig, all your past posts' sigs will update to the new signature, assuming you had an older sig.
  3. In the interest of keeping the forum legible, please keep the signature brief. A couple of lines is fine, but if your signature is longer than your post, you might want to re-think one or the other! Entire stanzas, passages are not recommended because it forces readers to scroll a lot. Change the font size down to smallest (font=1) or pick a shorter sig.
  4. If you're trying to be funny, remember: Brevity is the soul of wit!
  5. You may include link(s) to personal or club sites. Try to keep this brief. If the links are too numerous or too long they may be removed. Commercial site links, in moderation, are okay particularly if they are related to bonsai & suiseki: but, links to sites with pyramid schemes, adult content or aggressive popup ads are not permitted.
  6. You may include a short quote. Multiple quotes in the same sig are discouraged, particularly if they are long. Why not pick the one you like best and then change it every month or so to keep it fresh?
  7. The use of ASCII art in signatures is discouraged. It takes up a lot of onscreen real estate and offers little once you've seen it once.
  8. You can adjust the font size and color of your signature. Huge fonts and all caps are discouraged. Making a long sig smaller may help make it less obtrusive. See point #3.
  9. Remember if you're not happy with the signature feature or a particular user's signature, you can turn off the display of signatures in your UserCP (see Thread Display Options) or ignore a particular user
Thanks for adhering to these general guidelines. This is a subjective issue and we'd rather provide this outline than impose strict rules on the structure & length of signatures.

Please contact a moderator if you have questions or issues.
