"This sculpture depicting a ‘Land and Water Penjing’ was created using the following materials: the core of the trees is foam rubber pipe insulation with wire inserted in the walls to allow bending and shaping; trunks, roots, and branches, are constructed of, or covered with brown pipe cleaners [with the exception of the foremost small tree on the right island which has wire branches and trunk with pipe cleaner nap glued to the surface]; all deadwood was made using white and black pipe cleaners, the nap was melted with a bic lighter, then touch-up painted with acrylic paint; all rocks are carved from white styrofoam and painted with acrylic paint; the ‘mondo grass clumps’ are green pipe cleaners reduced with a bic lighter; foliage is polyfill fiber dyed with egg dye; soil is carved from white styrofoam, painted with acrylic paint, then chopped, sifted, and colored, foam rubber moss was added. The tray was cut from art foam board and glued together, and each island is one piece.
Length of tray 27 inches, depth 20 inches, height of main tree from table top 14 ½ inches, from soil 10 inches.
