Here is the thread about the rules. If you start a new thread in that sub-forum, you can submit your pictures. In other words, don't hit "reply", you should actually start a new thread in the "Pipecleaner Bonsai Contest" area.
It's moderated, so your submission won't show right away. Matt will make your pictures anonymous so that when we vote, we won't know whose is whose. You can submit your pictures any time. Joanie |

Thanks Joanie for explaining.
I´ve created a new tread where I have submitted my Fauxsai. When will the first "trees" be visible? Are there allready a lot off entries? Thanks again, Wessel

Mr. Matt,
I am indeed happy to see the final entry date has been changed to August 31, instead of the 15th...I am currently trying to achieve an 'air-layer' on my tree to get a companion plant of the same species... I do have a couple questions for anyone with 'experience' in layering a "Pipeus Cleanerisis 'chenille'"... I have used the 'ring bark' cut with hormone and "dry sphagnum" [concerned about rust which the species is prone to], and wrapped with aluminum foil...I am in USDA zone 8b, and would like to know when I can safely separate the layer?...I do so hope it will be in time for the contest submission deadline... Does anyone with experience think the use of a tourniquet would also be of value in speeding the process?... I am thankful for the additional week and a half, but still quite apprehensive about the time factor...Any help from experienced 'fauxsai' artists would be much appreciated...Thanks in advance... Regards Behr ![]()

I might've missed this somewhere (probably
) but does moss count as a no-no? It is organic, but it's not really part of a tree........... am working on gettng my tree out of its training pot into its final display and was wondering if moss was okay...Grampz: I've not tried the airlayering with the species yet, but I do have to say they take very nicely to thread grafting! They don't even need cut paste-and results are almost instantaneous A warning to those with cats: This species is irresistable to cats, needs to be placed very high up or you'll soon find your prized Pipeus being restyled.... although the damage can be repaired with time, it's much easier to just hide your Pipeus ![]() |

Had no idea how many to get....I foresee another store trip soon LOLAnd I wasn't kidding about the cat thing.......just spent 5 minutes chasing said kitten around to retrieve a branch LOL..... |

My daughter has a small "Pipecleaner Bonsai" forest on her toy train table now!
With respect to the necessary materials, it really depends on whether or not you fill the core of the 'trunk' and 'major branches' with something. If you don't, and use only pipecleaners it will take quite a few to create any girth or taper. In that case I wouldn't be surprised to see as many as 100 pipecleaners needed for a smallish (8") tree - but it depends on what kind of taper you produce, how ramified the tree is, and whether you intend to include any kind of foliage. Good luck! Matt
