Finalist Tree No. 5 Clump Style

Tiny Plant from Finland

This is the epitome of classic maple bonsai design. The canopy is perfectly shaped, and the foliage color is exquisite. The pot, stand and tree are in perfect harmony. The splash of green in the accent bamboo make this a winner. Combine black background and the subtle shade changes in all the maroons of the pots and stands, and this is great display work. Again this is a virtual on parr with photo montages from Bonsai Today. Great fall color on the leaves, at the peak time to be presented. Very nicly done.

Runner up, Karl Thier. Karl is very good at this virtual and design game. Very classical maple design. I like the individual leaves on these virtuals and Karl is very good at that. I would like to know how they do that. The sunset backdrop does nothing for the virtual. Thats a personl thing with me though. My eye seems to go right for the sun first thing.

Rene, Nice shaped canopy, yet does not have the individual leaves that make the other trees sparkle. Maybe we can find out together.

OMC, Love that fall canopy. The yellow color is great. Very nice stand too! Accent can out of scale with stand!

Re: Finalist Tree No. 5 Clump Style

Ah, finally a chance to disagree with the judges!!!

This is the fun part!

--

I think that Karl did a fantastic job with the foliage here, and because I won't vote for my own entry (and because I disqualified myself with the silly accent object - see below), I'd have given him the prize.

(Even though, as Al says, the sunset does nothing for the tree.)

Why?

After all, Tiny Plant has put together an another amazing display. Like his bunjin - it is hard to believe that it's not a photograph instead of a virtual! The tree itself is absolutely classic, beautifully styled. My problem with his entry is the pot. Putting a old clump-style maple in a pot that deep is a big mistake, in my opinion. Other than that, fantastic virtual! Tiny Plant, would you consider writing a tutorial for the rest of us about how you make these? (Oh, and by the way - is that you on the dirt bike in your two avatar shots?)

And now for the serious disagreement.

Not at all, Al! That's not an ordinary-sized can, that's a Foster's Oil Can, so named because it's the size of an oil can.

(And for those of you who missed it, what better accent object for an oil spill nebari than the oil can itself?)

All the best,
Old Mister Crow

Yes it is me in those avatar photos, and they are not virtuals
I would like to make a tutorial of how i made those virtuals but i am not so good at english It is actually really difficult for me to make proper sentenses in English! But I will try to make a tutorial! It may take some time but I will then let you know.

omc: The oil Can wasn't actually so bad!

That's ok. Although I don't think anyone here would be annoyed by a couple of typos.

Tiny,
Couldn't find any typos. Maybe it's just because the tutorial was so good and educative. I learned a lot.
Thank you very much.

Zeb

Post scriptum:
You could probably make a new thread for this tutorial in the General table, or somewhere else.

Thanks Tiny, I liked the education. I do it the same way. You must have some awesome software, or I have a shakey hand. I can not see one distracting line in all that cloaning! Thanks, Bonsaial

I use corel photo house I forgot to tell that I allso soften all the hard edges by drawing with the brush tool which is set to 89% transparens and to 80% edge fading over the sharp edges It works the same as the "blur" effekt but it is much more accurate to use on detailed pictures.
Here is a image so you can see the differens:
