Al's Shohin Stand

Hello, everyone.

Well, on Wednesday night I got home from work to find a package on my doorstep. I tore it open, and there it was, Al's amazing handiwork. Both my wife and I were blown away by it, and particularly by the quality of the craftsmanship. The lacquer makes it seem like something even more than wood, kind of like the essence of wood that you'd find inside a tree if you could see the true inside of a tree. Al really outdid himself on this one. Amazing.

While it goes without saying that I don't have any shohin trees that merit such a nice stand, I'm working on it. In the meantime, I thought I'd take a few pictures to share. Here they are. The first tree is a shohin hornbeam that I've been working on for a year. As you can see, the leaves have already started to drop.

Here's my first-ever effort at putting together a display. I realize I need another object, mats, an appropriately seasonal accent plant, and all that, but I couldn't resist giving it a try anyway. The placement isn't good - but the size of my backdrop limited me there.

And just to bring things full circle, I posted a picture of this tree - along with a plea for advice - in my first-ever post to BonsaiTALK.

Here it is today, recovering in a training pot.

It looks like you have put the stand to great use to me. I like the look of both the plants on the stand. The display with the cypress looks very nice. I'm thinkin you should be thinkin suiseki!
