It's contest time again!
It's time for yet another of our fantastic forum styling contests!
After the last few contests there have been many suggestions as to future contests and I thought it would be productive to post them here so we can consider all ideas before announcing the rules and guidelines for this one. So if you have an idea, suggestion, comment, or gripe about any of the last contests, post them here and let us know how we can improve. Matt, Could you create a area for the 2005 Fall Styling Contest threads please? Thanks, Will Last edited by Will_Heath : 7-Oct-2005 at 11:00 AM. |

Hi,
Is a tree purchased before todays date eligable for the contest? (I assume today is the official start of the 2005-06 contest) Thanks.

That's a fair question but a complicated one. I know of a few people who have purchased trees up to three years ago and they are still in the nursery pot they came in, should they count after three years?
The official beginning date will be on the day we formally announce the rules, deadlines, and contest. This thread is simply a feeler to hash out anything that people may feel needs improvement over the last contest. I would greatly like to hear others thoughts on this issue. Will |

I'd say no. A tree can be developed/ramified quiet a bit in 3 years. Bought and styled within the set timescale....that way its a little more of an even playing field.

Thank you, that makes sense. (she puts down her wallet and car keys, and list of good nurseries, laughs)
Trees purchased three years ago and still in their nursery pot would probably have been worked, at least pinched back, or root pruned. So that wouldn't be fair, would it? And you wouldn't be able to tell by the pictures. The purchase of the tree should, therefore, be on or after the official announcement, correct? Joanie

Why wouldn't it? If you have been the one styling it? I really dislike "instant bonsai" contests.

Because it gives your tree an advantage... that other people won't have. Joanie
