Personally, I find 31539 to have an outstanding upper area. I love the branching, foliage, and overall balance. I find the strong, tapering trunk very complementary, but the lowest jin/shari still seems too thick and well...full.
I think a thinner, more weathered lower part would be a more consistent addition to the rest of the tree. I guess it's because the heavy jin/shari gives the taper of the trunk a very sharp almost abrupt reduction in thickness which tricks my eye into seeing a tree leaning sharply AWAY from me. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not my idea of optimal. I think the pot idea is perfect. Walter, I hope you don't mind I'm trying the same virtual of yours (31539) with just some of the deadwood removed. I just want to "see" it as I imagine it. It's only a little bit of deadwood that is removed. This bonsai is going to be a great tree with just a little time!!! Great critique Walter. John
