Winter Storage

Hello everyone,

I will be putting up my cold frame in the next week or so, and I was curious if some of you have pictures of your winter storage areas. I personally use a 12' x20' metal framed portable car port (fully enclosed) for most of my bonsai. It really gets packed, but it does a great job.

When it is up and the bonsai are stored, I'll take a few pictures. Until then I would like to see and/or read about others' efforts for winter protection.

Take care,

John

OK, I lied, it was two days later, but here we are.

Photo 1 -- I don't know why my shop teacher always broke out in hives

Photo 2 -- If these were children, this would be the warm milk and story stage

Photo 3 -- All tucked in.

There's enough room for me to crawl in with a water can if needed, but here in Ohio it'll probably stay just about frozen so water is not needed often.

Happy wintering!

Good thing I put up the coldframe when I did!
We got pounded with snow all day, and it sure would have made things more difficult to put up.

And just for a reminder of warmer days, a picture of the gardens of Wuggums-En on a summer morning. Les Jardins de Wuggums-En au matin estival (in French it sounds so classy, you might forget that some stands are made from cat-litter buckets)

That summer shot likes a vendors spot on the south side of Mexico City.

Here's the cold frame I built last fall. It's attached to the window of my heated cellar/studio so I can let a little heat in when it gets really cold. It was way to small for my collection this year, so I built a poly tunnel this fallusing plans from this site. Materials cost around $275 and about 8 or 10 hours labor. If anyone is interested, I can post pics and a few tips.
Best,
Kev

You mean because of the exotic flair?
The verdant foliage of the southern climes?
The bright festive colors of a Mexican holiday?

Why, what a compliment!

Pootsie,
I think it's one about the exotic flair.

Why I can almost smell the tacos de cabeza.

pootsie and muddslinger,

Thanks for the pics. I'm glad you two are on the ball. I'm afraid I have precrastinated a little and subsequently fell behind. I got the metal frame up and leveled, but alas, the digital camera is on the fritz (thank goodness for extended warranties). Still a lot to do. When I get it completed (and I have a camera) I'll post a pic or two.

We're just now experiencing a little cold, 40's in the day, high teens at night.

John
