Actually, maple seeds need stratifying. Sow outside in a bed now, but they wont sprout until next spring. Or you can put in a ziplock bag with a little moist peat, and put in the refrigerator for about 90 days and them you can start them indoors and place outside in the spring.

thats what i ment ..if i satrify them ...and its winter ...and when they sprout ..what kind of lighting will i need for them so they will continue growing in the winter...
Are they mature anough if i picked them from the parent plant ..when they were still green/pink?
or do they need to fall of naturaly to be fully mature to make a plant in the future?

If you picked the seeds off the tree then thay probably are not mature. Ive done this and had 0% germination rate, which isnt very good!
You definitely should wait till they start falling naturally.

Im sorry, I thought you wanted to plant the seeds and grow them in your basement through the winter. But Lewis is right, plant them in pots a keep them moist outside for there stratisfication. Then they will sprout in the spring. They wont sprout during stratisfying so you wont have to worry about lighting.

I've achieved very good results with Amur Maple seeds by simply sewing them on the ground in my vegetable garden, putting a very thin layer of dirt over them and leaving them alone, outside, over the Winter. Next Spring, lots and lots of little Maple seedlings. Just provided the exact same conditions that would occur in the natural course of events if they were left to fall and develop where they fell. Used pretty much the same technique with the seeds of our native Red Maples, except I did it in the Spring when they were available.

Both were complete no-brainers.

Actually a few might, I still have a month of stratifying in the fridge on about 100 jap maple seeds, and I picked 3 out that had sprouted in the fridge about 3 days ago. 1 is doing well, i think the other 2 are rotting, not sure how long they had been in there since popping. So which ever way you decide to stratify, keep an eye on them and check every few days after about 2 months, because if they sprout and remain in the cold, they wont even see their first set of leaves. Happens all the time.
