Hi John -

Bought it a few years back advertised as a Japanese kousa dogwood - but I think you are right. I believe what I have got here is a Cornus officinalis (Japanese cornel dogwood). Just found some pics of the foliage and flowers on the web, and it sure looks a whole lot like mine!

And all this time I thought it was a kousa . Thanks for enlightening me!

I just saw it's going to be getting colder this week here as well (Bay Area, CA) It had been very springlike for the past month, but now it will dip down toward freezing at night.

well, the storm started later than they expected, but it is going at a good rate. may last through the night. tom, i agree, seems like winter doesn't start til mid january or later as of late. spring? oh, that day between winter and summer, it has a name? lol!!
