Winter Care For Outdoor Bonsai
Now that it's the beginning of November, I need to be concerned with the health of my outdoor bonsai in the harsh Cleveland winter weather.
This past summer I acquired an azalea and a cypress. For the winter, I have stored them near a window in my detached garage. Here, they will get cold and go dormant, while still getting a little daily sunlight, and they will be protected from winter winds. My concern is when our winter temperature drops far below freezing that the trees could freeze.
What tips do you have to prevent the trees from freezing? The garage should keep the temperature a few degrees above normal outside, but I fear they may be in trouble when it dips below 25 degrees F. I've got the pots surrounded by burlap to help insulate. Will this be enough? What else can I do?
Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks.
