So...is it Spring with you yet ?

Sorry for all those going into Autumn.... but seems given I have an inch or so of snow on the ground... I think my Spring will start in another few weeks.

Looks like some think it has started already . . . http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4767522.stm

My maples are generally the first to break bud, yet thankfully given the current cold-snap, they are well behind last year.

How are you finding development of Spring where you are ?

Regards,
Ian.

My kiyohimes have broken bud in February, but not this year. We have had a mild winter in the midwest but with no long warm spells occurring. So, no early maples yet, but all my junipers and azaleas stayed really green this year.

Love that BBC report, Ian. Those MPs have to have something to row about don't they.
I'm a little south of you (Gloucestershire) and have acers, quinces etc budding quite well, but the weather is still very cold and it will be mid to late March before I get started on re-potting, pruning etc.

It's definitely spring here, only the palmatums haven't really burst yet. The tridents are well on their way, and the quinces have given us a beautiful show already.

We are getting a few rain storms, which we sorely need, and my rain barrel is almost full.

Also Zone 8 here, enjoying a rather nasty spell of snow, sleet and freezing winds. I saw some very slight swelling of buds on a campestre before the depth of winter returned to my home town.

The rosemary is blooming, and a lone zelkova is still hanging on to the last of yesteryears leaves. Gingko and beach, always late, are still fast asleep, and my azalea is loaded with buds waiting for spring. All the Japanese maples remain resolutely dormant, except for a lone Katsura enjoying a little more direct sunlight than the others...

Node,
Fantastic photograph that... one for the Macro thread

Yes, by February a couple of my Kiyohimes have normally broken. Although not as cold as it could have been, we certainly seem to have had a few cold spells of late, which has delayed the on-set of Spring.

Here is a picture of part of my benches last night !!!

Cheers,
Ian.

Well, we're supposed to get our first warm spell of the year with temps at 50F. I'm not expecting spring till late March or April. Who knows with Wisconsin weather, though, it can go from 60F one day to snow the next day.

30's F during the day, teens during the night. The days are getting longer, though, and we should see some significant opening up of things during the next few weeks.

Right now we have 3-4" of snow on the ground, although with a few sunny days that should disappear.

We have had some days in the mid to upper 80's F,last week I don't think we had any freezes and the next 7 days are now predicted to be free of them aswell. The Bradford pears are in full bloom and what we call easter flowers are shooting up out of the ground. My crabapples are leafing the tiny little red leafs and my Jpn. maple buds are swelling.I notice the color on my junips are better so I do think spring is here at last.

Nothing growing yet. We probably won't take things out of winter storage for another 2-3 weeks. We just have to watch the nighttime temperatures and look for a warming trend.
