Irish Winter

Hello im new to the world on Bonsai and I havent even bought a tree yet, and already I'm worried that I'm in trouble!!

In case you dont know, Winter in Ireland is fairly cold and it doesnt get much hotter in summer! Im more interested in keeping indoor bonzai but all the books i read say a pretty high temperature is needed, like above 16C in Winter (sorry i dont know what that is in far.). So am i defeated already??

Also, if its cold enough indoors could i cheat and keep outdoor bonsai indoors because they can be more hardy?

Thanks for any help, its much needed!!

Richard, greetings!
First off do not worry about your 'cold' temperatures. You can grow bonsai outdoors, you just need to go with the trees that will enjoy your climate. I live in northern Vermont. The winter temps are well below yours and the summers are short. We list the last day for frost as the first week in June and we get snow by the end of October.

Go with local trees and you will need to protect them in the winter. I'm sure one or more of the local Bonsaists will give you better info.
