Ficus treesin winter

Hey All,

I have five young ficus trees that I'm keeping in the house. I live in kentucky and don't think they could take the weather here now, today 60,tomarrow 40's to 30's.
Is it ok to do any cuting on them in the winter time seeings how there not being wintered? Will they quit ,or slow there growth, even tho there indoors
Thank you,Curt

Hi Curtis,

Don't worry your Ficus will do just fine indoors as long as you follow a few simple things. One do not put it on top of any heat source or by a heat duct. Make sure it has enough light such as a South facing window. Don't be moving it around because they don't like alot of changes in enviroment. Don't be alarmed if it starts droping some leaves as this is normal when it's eviroment changes.

And it is ok to do some cutting anytime it is showing strong growth, but if it is not growing strongly it is best to wait

Thanks

I was worried abit about the indoor thing the rest of my stock is outside of course.
Never tied a ficus befor. They are still showing strong growth still and I want to keep them pruned back as much as posible, the trucks are realy starting to show some size to them,(for little trees that is). Thanks for the input if there is anyone else I would love to here from them.
By the way will ficus trees make a good grove? That is what my goal is with these 5.
