Bare branches
I purchased my first bonsai in July, so I'm new to the whole thing. I've got a Nashia Bonsai and it keeps losing leaves everyday, but it continues to grow them on the ends of that branches as usual. On 2 or 3 of the branches, there are no leaves and no sign of regrowth. I was wondering i this was due to the time of year (Late October) or if there could be something wrong. Please help and thank you very much in advance.

Re: Bare branches
Sounds like a root problem.
How long has this been happening? Is it in the proper soil? How long is the soil staying wet? How often are you watering it? Where is it located, i.e., in or out, amount of sun?

Re: Bare branches
Here are some Nashia cultivation tips from Mary Miller
http://www.bonsai-bci.com/species/bahama.html and a picture http://www.rareflora.com/nashiain.htm This plant is listed as a "tender perennial" on one page, which leads me to believe it behaves like a fuschia and would lose its leaves entirely in winter, but need protection from frost. Fuschia also tends to push growth at the tips. *Maybe it's just confused about the season. *It may need some help deciding whether to go dormant or to push growth. Anyone else growing Nashia? |

Re: Bare branches
To answer posted questions about my original question:
This problem of bare branches has been happening for a little less than a month. I don't know what type of siol it is in. The place that I bought it gave me the type of soil with lots of little rocks and I mixed it with other soil from my other tree. The soil is always wet. I water it about every day, sometimes every other day. It is located in my room, on the window sill and I don't think that there is enough light. That may be the problem. Thanx and I hope that helps you help me. |

Re: Bare branches
Mike where in the world are you. Most bonsai are kept out doors. Except in northern climates that have very cold weather. If we know where you are we can give you better advice. Also for now back off on the water, you want your soil moist not wet all of the time.
