'tis The Season...
I read somewhere that poinsettia are actually good bonsai material.... I surprised to find this out because i always thought that they were only used as house plants during the holidays and scuh. i was also wondering how poinsettia could be bonsai since their leaves are giant and couldn't possibly depict a miniature tree... anyone with poinsettia bonsai experience? just curious!

Jimmy,
Where ever you read that, cancell your subscription! Your insticts are right on. After the holidays you can put them in the ground and they will grow into a small tree -large bush if your climate is mild enough. Good luck merry Christmas.

Well! Just when you think you're on to something new! BAM!
I purchased a Ponsettia last year at Christmas. When the leaves fell off I pruned it back to nothing and kept it in the window. In early May I repotted it. This sucker grows fast! When I got it the trunk (do you call it a trunk? It's a bush right?) was only about fourth of an inch maybe, and now its a good three quarters in diamiter. It has a light brown/biege color where the green stalk used to be. This lil' tree definately has color going for it if nothing else. |
