Serissa Seroides???
Hi There,
I've recently rescued a serissa seroides from a local DIY Store. When I bought it I just thought it was a non variagated serissa foetida. When I got it home and read the tiny (1" square) leaflet, I found that I had got a serissa seroides. I have searched extensively on the net to try to find out how seriodes is related to foetida and if their care regimes are similar, but there isn't much out there really, not in english anyway. I'm guessing their care requirements are the same, but I'd rather 'know' than guess... Can anyone enlighten me BTW don't have acces to my digi camera at the moment, but this is a picture of the leaves on a seroides. Thanks in advance, Regards, TB

I have read that there is only one species in the Serissa genus, but quite a few cultivars. Common name for Serissa is "Tree of a Thousand Stars" or "Snow Rose"
There is a list of Serissa cultivars over at Bonsai Web. http://www.bonsaiweb.com/care/faq/serissa.html Cultivation should be very similar for all of them. There are some details at BCI Species Index: http://www.bonsai-bci.com/species/serissa.html Brussels lists "Serissa seroides" as another common name for generic serissa. http://www.brusselsbonsai.com/care/...s/serissa.shtml Good luck, Matt

Matt,
Thankyou. I've been to the first two sites before, and had no luck, but the brussels bonsai site is new to me. Obviously your searches are more extensive than mine The key point about the brussels site is that it lists the tree as a 'serissoides', not 'seroides'. Those extra couple of letters make all the difference... lots more search hits Thanks again, You're a diamond 'geezer' Regards, TB

After a lot of rooting around on the net, I've figured out (I think!) what's going on with the names.
It seems that 'serissoidea' would be the correct term to use if any, which means 'all species of serissa'. see here Anyone conversant with latin may be able to correct me (or confirm). Anyway, MY particular tree has glossy green leaves, tiny star-like white flowers, therefore it appears to be Serissa feotida 'snow rose'. see here All this may seem irrelevant and/or obvious to many but my wife does call me a fuss-@rse sometimes (well, I say sometimes, I really mean often... )Regards, TB
