thanks, levon. i'd never seen a picture before. i think it be fun to try one of these species since i live over here in california and see them on occation.
so if a normal tree is say 30 to 50 feet high (depending on what normal is) and a bonsai of one of these trees is roughly 6inches to one foot high, is a bonsai of a redwood tree (which grow up to 300 feet, i believe) 4 to 6 feet tall? or is there no proper scale for bonsai? (i am a beginner)

If you could get up to "Sta.Rosa August 24-25th, to the Redwood Empire Bonsai Show you'd see LOTS of wonderful Redwoods. Also, on Saturday Kathy Shaner is doing the demo.......and she's worth travelling for.
My club, the Sta.Cruz Bonsai Kai is renting two busses for us to go up in a group.
I know Bakersfield is a bit further than Sta.Cruz, but if you could make it, you'd love it. It's one of the better shows in Northern California, and there will be a large contingent of vendors there....even the Shimons, who sell Redwood bonsai and pre-bonsai.
Do you plan to go to the GSBF Convention in October? If so, you'll see Redwoods there too....in the vendor area. The convention is being held in Sacramento this year. Check it out.
