Re: New Bald Cypress Trees. HELLLLP!!!

I don't know if this thread is still being followed, but I just came across it. In my humble opinion, I think that the reason this forest might not look as convincing as you'd like is, some of the trees seem to lean inward. According to what I know of forest styles, if they lean at all, it should be exactly opposite. They should spread out at the top slightly. Sometimes this is also supplamented by a mellow mound around where the trunks eminate from. The leaning does two things, helps the illusion, and allows the inner parts of the group to receive light. Try bending them around a little and see of it helps.

Re: New Bald Cypress Trees. HELLLLP!!!

thanks for the input you are correct in your observations this was the first group planting that I did and i've learned alot in the past few weeks . The main reason that I put these trees together was to let them grow in a box and put some size on them and believe me they have grown like crazy. I hope to get a new pic up soon the branches are needing to be trimmed back but i'm waiting until the new growth hardens off and try come cuttings . Thanks again for the input and keep them comming thats the only way I will ever learn.

Bald Cypress Update

Well its been 5 months sence I have updated a pic. on these trees so I thought its time to post one.The first thing I noticed about these trees is they grow real fast (these have been cut back 3 times in 5 months)a couple of them grew 12" in a month. They bud back real good to, if you dont have a branch where you want it just cut it back and you will eventually get one there. The cuttings are somewhat easy to get to root (make sure the new growth has hardened off the green branches dont root to good for some reason) .These trees really like being wet but also somewhat full sun I guess thats why they like swamps so much.I was looking mainly for root growth when I planted them in this growing box so I used miracle-grow potting soil and a thin layer of pine bark for mulch to hold water in.Just a little miracid every 2 or 3 weeks and thats it no major bug problems or anything. This is a very good tree for a beginner like me grows fast, easy to care for ,lots of green feathery foilage(i hear it may put on a show of color this fall but I'll have to wait and see) and easy to root from cuttings.

P.S.The above is just some observations by sankastaff of his trees this summer he doesnt know anything and doesnt claim to know anything and he has witnesses to prove it.

stay tuned next week folks for the future bonsai adventures of sankastaff

Hay Sanke were these trees nursury stock or collected trees? I have some collected ones that dont grow nearly that fast. They havent been in pots very long though which might explain the slow growth. The roots may need time to heal from what I've done to them. I hope that they grow fast as yours once they regain their root system.
