How exciting. My wife is fond of Lychee nuts!

Now the question is always, how big a tree do you want? If you'd like a tree with a big trunk, you would have to let it grow for longer periods between pruning.

Whether it will be big or small, it would be a good idea now to cut back to one set of leaves and let it grow some more. When the leaves grow back you will probably get two or perhaps more shoots if the tree is strong and by repeating that process every couple of months you can develop it into a treelike shape. Or just allow it to grow more without further pinching

Either way, getting those first branches started will be a good plan, whether the tree is ultimately big or small. Remember, pinching back (or pruning if the growth can't be pinched with the fingertips) promotes more branching, smaller leaves and slows down growth.

I found this website that has some interesting photos of Lichi harvesting, flowers and fruits.
