Just bought a 'Spiraea'

I just got back from the nursery, and just had to pick up this tree!

It is a Spiraea 'Snowmound' or Spiraea nipponica. It's tiny leaves and even smaller buds caught my eye. The bark has a very nice texture, it isn't smooth but looks like it is mature.

Does anyone else have experience or information on this tree (actually bush...)? It looks like it'll make an awesome bonsai, I'll post some pictures the second I find my digital camera

Here is a close-up of the leaves and the little buds it has on it. These are VERY small and look nice.

Re: Just bought a 'Spiraea'

This is the best profile of the tree I could get, but it isn't too good. With a bit of pruning it'll look good. Where the trunk gives off to the branches (is there a name for that?) looks very good and natural.

Re: Just bought a 'Spiraea'

Next time I recommend checking the plants at the nursery. Look what was crawling in mine!

This is just one of my pugs that follows me around when gardening... notice the crooked teeth are PERFECTLY symmetrical

If you are willing to put in the time, with some copper wire and branch jacks, I think you may be able to achieve the results in the virtual shown below.

It won't be easy, though.

Hey, get with it guys! This is the 21st century, haven't you heard of doggy braces?

I've never grown any spirea but have looked at plenty of them. Looks like you got a good one. It's unusual to find a single trunk, they usually grow in a clump style with 20-40 small spendly trunks.

Re: Just bought a 'Spiraea'

LOL awesome!! After that all he needs is to lose about 20 pounds and he'll be looking good

They had another Spiraea with red leaves (I can't remember the name), and all of them grew as a clump as well. This one looks like it has a lot of potential.

BTW, my father is a vet and liked the picture so much he made a Before and After picture and is posting it at work
