i have an acer

its deciduous, and has spherical sticker-like seed pods about one inch diameter.
anyway,we`ve had 80f temps for about a week now,and the tree is breaking out in bud.its ready for a bonsai pot and im very excited about it.
were s'pose to wait for February here,but with the new growth will it be to late,silly huh?what i really want is to DO IT NOW!
haha.

Hi Denny,

It sounds like a little like Liquidamber (Liquidambar) Also called sweetgum?


maples (usually, I think) look more winged, like this:



If you do repot early, you will need to be sure that the rootball keeps above the freezing point. _That might mean taking it into the garage at night once or twice if really cold weather is predicted.

Moving the tree can be disruptive, too, so tie it in tight so it can't move around much.

no maple,your right there.no wonder i couldnt find it under acer.
they look simiular enouth i dont feel like a compleat idiot,i guess.

You should be OK now in So. Cal. Just watch the whether thingy that Matt provides and bring in if frost is expected. We will have frost tonight here in Fresno. So I will have to tent my new Cal juniper that I just dug in Mojave. Get that tree ready for the show here we will make it happen.
