How to get Wisteria to bloom?
Hey Guys,
I recently purchased a nice wisteria that has a beautiful thick tapered trunk. I've heard they are tough to get to bloom? Too much pruning bad? Any thoughts/experiences? |

Re: How to get Wisteria to bloom?
I've got the same problem and here's what I'm trying. *
*Wisteria wants to produce foliage and it only produces blooms when stressed. *Use dense soil, no drainage layer, allow it to become root bound, use bone meal and then.... *I've read and heard from other sources to get wisteria to bloom you should put the pot in 3-4 inches of water during the spring. *In mid-Summer take the tree out of the water and allowed to dry out for 1-3 days, depending on weather. *Then water it well and it put back to soak. Repeat every week for about a month, and you should get buds * Oh yeah, Wisteria only blooms if it's at least 5 years old. *Now the disclaimer... I'm trying this now for the first time. *You could wait a few months and see how it works or try it yourself. Good Luck |

Re: How to get Wisteria to bloom?
Let me know if it works!
I have been standing the pot in water - the leaves wilt otherwise! |

Wisteria
Wisteria is an usual plant, i bought three from a nursery approximately 6 foot high and planted them over a trellis on my back porch, and year after year hoping for flowers well after 5 1/2 years I was just about ready to rip them out of the ground they grew over 20 feet long but no flowers, the trunks were about 4 to 5 inches thick so I asked someone at a local nursery , what could be done to get these to flower and he told me what he did to his to drastically cut them back and dig around them and cut the roots I only cut about 6 feet off the top and dug around them and chopped all the roots I could find this was done in the spring, well I don't know if that was the trick but they have been flowering profusely ever since, The funny part is that I found some in the wild that are only a foot tall and about 1 inch trunk and they are loaded with flowers. Go figure. |
