How to deal with this Leptospermum?

Hey Guys,
I bought a nice New Zealand Tea Tree that appears healthy. The problem is the pot is quite small (6&quot and the tree base so mounded that it's difficult to water the tree. What Iv'e read about Leptospermum suggests they like to stay moist. The base of the tree is very high and the soil goes right to the edge of the pot so anything but the most minute quantity of water rolls right off.
Normally I'd repot BUT the other thing I'm reading about Leptospermum is that they dislike repotting intensely and hate having their roots disturbed.
I know there no way to keep it moist enough the way it is now. I love my bonsai but with so many I'm lucky to get everbody watered once.
Could I just repot in a bigger pot and fill in around the mound or would that interfere with root oxygenation?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
PS. Is it true that most bonsai should'nt be immersed for watering on a continual basis due to the build up of salts in the soil?
I'm going to cross post this one to general question too.
Thanks again.

Watering Leptospermum (New Zealand Tea Tree)

No need to cross post. The messages are marked as NEW wherever they are.

You may soak your trees as frequently as necessary. This is a good way to saturate the rootball. However, you should also use overhead watering afterwards because this pulls in oxygen and flushes the soil.

In my experience the Leptospermum needs a consistent moisture level, but you don't want it soggy.

Regards,

Matt
