Guelder Rose Viburnum opulus
I just saw some pics of this as a bonsai and find it hard to believe how good it looks, since as a landscape plant these seem to be big overgrown shrubs with ram rod straight stems and huge internodes.
Anyone with care or training tips, I'd love to hear more! |

Viburnum opulus
Here in France, the most common species is called "Snowball" because of its round grapes of white flowers. This type is probably very difficult to cultivate as a bonsai if you are interested in the flowers (too big)
I trained a seedling of the wild species which is very frequent in the woods around where I live because of the colour of the leaves in autumn. You can see the page here : http://site.voila.fr/babadubonsai/d...m/viburnum.html (in French, but there are somme pics that pop up when you put your cursor on the links) Nothing to do with the yamadoris I can see on the various forums I read, and even less with the masterpieces at Kokufu, but i do have pleasure in seeing the colours change through the seasons...
