With Fall Approching......

What temperatures should I look for before taking my trops indoors for the winter. I seem to take them in too early every year. Ficus, Black olive, Serissa etc. I've seen folks keep em out till the night time temps are in the 50s. That number scares me a bit. Any thoughts?
TIA

I winter my serissa and ficus outside. The temperature range here during winter is between 40F and 55F and they are doing all right.

I don't know about the bucida.

Regards,
Attila

If I see temps in the lower 50's at night, I get anxious. We're still in the 60's at night now so I'm holding out a little longer. Given your zone, you'll likely make it a little longer than I. But, I don't mess with the 40's-too scared. If you see that, I'd bring them in. just my two cents.
Just a note/tip for those who bring in their tropicals. I often start spraying them with insecticidal soap a few times before bringing them in. Then I spray them a couple more times once in.

I have gotten rid of most of my trops. Only have 2 left. I usually bring mine in when the temps outside are about the same as inside around 70 degrees. It seems to keep them happier and less stressfull on them.

Forty degrees is the magic temperature for me. Below that and in they come.
I still have a ton of tropical trees. Several varieties of ficus, about 7 black olives and 10-15 Brazilian Raintrees just to name a few.
Never had a problem at 40 and above. No matter where I have lived

I won't bring mine in until it's in the 40's at night every single night. Right now we're getting upper 50's at night, and I don't even consider bringing them in. Besides, I'm not done with my new indoor setup yet for housing them so it CAN'T get cold too soon.

I'm a noob, but I suggest when they go into dormancy. They are hardy enough plants to take some cold...Sheltered of course. Your a 4A zone btw.
