eugenia polyanthus wight
i was looking at my bay leaf tree yesterday and found it had a very interesting trunk, and a pretty tree besides.
from what info i was able to find this is a tropical, and unless i have a temperate variety(if there is such a thing) it would be ok to collect right now. what do you think, can i put it in a training pot this time of year?

Re: eugenia polyanthus wight
I haven't seen bay or laurel as bonsai. *Doesn't mean it can't be done though. *Leaves smell nice when you pinch them, and you can defoliate some rosemary and have a good start on a pasta sauce.
It's usually best to collect and repot just as trees enter or exit dormancy, which is late fall, late winter or early spring for most species. You can look at flowering as a sign of the end of the dormant period. Tropicals can often be transplanted year round. This time of year it would be too warm and dry for me to do any repotting on temperate species, but some areas that have some nasty humidity might be able to get away with it. Regards, Matt
