Cotoneaster In Winter

I just bought a Cotoneaster tree from a local nursery. It look pretty nice. I want to make it a semi-cascade style tree.

My question is , should I proceed now ( september) to style it. Ill put it in a new pot and do some wiring on it. Or should I wait spring ?

I live in Canada ( zone 5a ). What would be the best way to preserve it during winter ?

Camay, I too have started my 'visit the local nursery' tour. I have purchased a Cotoneaster also. My thoughts are wait! Don't do anything much to this tree. It is new to you! It is probably a seasonal leftover! It is possibly not well cared for (prior to your purchase). I would NOT REPOT! Doing a little trim work is not out of the question, but I am going to try and only do the basic cleanup and open up with mine.

Jay, I understand what your saying, Ill leave him time and give him good care.

Does that also mean that the best time to style is in the spring or before the tree goes to sleep in winter ?
