Cotoneaster Flowers...where Are They?

I've got dozens of cotoneasters here. All 3-6 years in age, grown from locally collected seedlings. I have other cotoneasters planted out in my garden - much older which do have flowers and berries etc. Additionally I have one fairly young cotoneaster plants from cuttings, with flowers and berries.

But on the little stuff - not seen a flower yet.

I'm guessing there are good reasons and I'd like some feedback from anyone who can confirm or deny the following:

1) The trees are just not old enough. How long does it usually take?
2) Pruning branches which have "future" flowers.
Am I dmagaing the tree's ability to produce flowers by overzealously pruning the branches?
Do they need to be allowed to grow unmolested for a period?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jerry

Brent Wallston is your authority on this. He propagates all kinds of material and would certainly know. I had been hoping he might drop by.

I don't have any immature specimens of cotoneaster and can't shed any light.

You should be able to PM or email Brent from this link:

or his contact links at http://www.evergreengardenworks.com/

Please post back what you learn.

Regards,

Matt
