Cotoneaster

hi there everyone!!

I was hoping someone could help me with a little problem I have been having.

My boyfriend have me a cotoneaster about a month and a half ago as a present and everything seemed to going ok. Over the last couple of weeks the leves have been starting to go brown and drop off.

I have been checking the soil and it hasn't been drying out.

Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

Thanks for your help!!

Tash

Re: Cotoneaster

Hi There Teliko & welcome to bonsaiTALK

A picture of your tree would be really helpful. *and knowing what season it is where you are now.

Cotoneasters behave mostly like evergreen shrubs, but when they get very cold they can shift into a decidous mode and drop leaves. *

Even when given the best of care, some amount of leaf turnover is normal. *Leaves will not last more than a year or so before they will be shed and replaced with new ones.

Are the leaves falling from the interior of the tree or the exterior branches, or everywhere? *Is there any sign of branch growth at the tips of the branches?

And of course, we have to ask where the plant is located, indoors or out.

You might want to take a look in the ***FAQ*** for watering hints. *It's currently #22, but it keeps getting pushed down as more items are added. Keep in mind that too much water can be a bad thing.
Regards,

Matt
