Burr Oak
Has anyone here had any experience with Burr Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) for bonsai? They have nice cork bark, but fairly large leaves... Do oak leaves reduce very well? I'd enjoy hearing your experiences.
Thanks, -Cody |

I have wondered the same thing? Ive seen really nice bonsai from english oak and the closes to this ive found to be the bur oak, both have large lobed rounded leaves.
I got about ten of these giant bur oak acorns last fall, put them in the fridge, then planted them about 5 weeks ago or so. They all sprouted and just as they rose out of the soil, they were ransacked by squirrels or something and it ate all of them! A very sad day. Ive had them dig up my red oak seedlings a couple times too and chew on the roots alittle! -Kevin
