Blue Spruce

For my parents 50th anniversary we gave all of the guests blue spruce saplings. I have saved mine, planted in the ground, in the hopes of someday bonsaiing it. I have not seen this in any of my books as a plant that you can bonsai. I am taking this to mean that this will not work with this plant. Any ideas?
At this point, the spruce is 5 years old and is about 3 ft. tall. My mother is now gone and it would be of special meaning to me if I could make this work. But if not, oh well.

Re: Blue Spruce

Sorry, I don't know all my spruces by common name. Is this the Colorado Blue Spruce [i:5d795f11a2]Picea pungens glauca[/i:5d795f11a2]?

If so, Vance wood has one on the www.bonsaiweb.com show site:

http://www.bonsaiweb.com/show/showtree.cgi?15

bonsaietc.com sells them as seedlings for bonsai,
(but they can't spell conifer)

http://www.bonsaietc.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/bonsaietc_shop_seedling_v2_p2.htm?E+scstore

and there is an interesting blue spruce over ath the Glory of Bonsai

In any case, I say, "Go for it!"

Regards,

Matt

Re: Blue Spruce

Thanks Matt. I was probably going to "give it a go" anyway. I guess I just needed to see if anyone else had tried it. Call me a sentimental fool. This could turn into another one of those learning experiences that bonsai keeps insisting on.
Loved the sites, by the way. With music, no less.

Did you go for it?

Moni -- I was curious to see if you tried to make a bonsai out of the blue spruce, and if so...how it worked. I found a small blue spruce at a local nursery this past year, and I'm seeing how it will do as a bonsai. So far it is doing alright.

Give us an update.

Anthony
