I recently purchased a book called Trees of Ontario... it's awesome, I can now figure out what all the trees are I frequently see.
Two trees that are widely cultivated for ornamental reasons are Russian Olive and Black Locust. Russian olive has a nice scaly looking bark and silvery leaves in fall and winter, definitely looks like Bonsai material. Plus, they are very common in areas suitable for collection (not someone's property ) and are all very mature. Black locust is relatively common and I am considering that because of the bark colour and compound leaves... not sure how those huge pods would look like on a bonsai though ![]() Has anyone had experience with any of these trees? Spring is coming up so if anyone has propagation tips, I'm all ears. BTW, I have about 100 locust seeds... Any information on how to grow them? |
