Judges Comments:
  • "Design is OK, but I don't like the heavy guy wire. A thinner one could have been utilized."
  • "The design is not bad, just not finished. Where's the Shari?? I think thats what's missing in the design."

Styling Thread

Judges Comments:
  • "The tree lacks a definition of branches. Too spread out."
  • "I've spent some time with this design. I believe that the design is OK, but could use a few changes. For instance, the branch coming off the main trunk of the #1 tree which is a main player in the apex comes off the main trunk in a loop. I might have taken that out and stood that tree more vertical. There is some confusion in the branching, but that may be due to seeing the tree only in 2 dimensions. But, I do like the design."

Styling Thread

Judges Comments:
  • "The design of the boxwood is not finished. It looks like the artist got scared to cut off more, which is needed. Where's the left side of the tree??"
  • "Even though I do not like box...it shows more effort...even though it is not finished"

Fifth Place - Maria Kapra (Los Angeles, CA)
Contest Entry #10928

Popular Vote Average: 6.97, Finalist #4

Styling Thread
Judges Comments:
  • "The foliage masses are too regular. That bothers me more than the good design of the trunk with driftwood"
  • "Although the design is good, I think the image has been worked in Photoshop. Really"
  • "What's wrong with this picture?? The foliage is too symetrical. Definately an edited photo. As far as the design, I have a hard time believing that the structure is there already. It does look OK as topiary, but not bonsai."
