Well, I think you want to heal that wound off and get a start in a new direction... Oh.. You mean about the tree?

Same thing! For the tree, make sure you don't have too many sprouts growing out of the same place. Pick a good leader for the new top, but keep a couple shoots growing on the opposite side help close the wound.

This will all happen most quickly in a growing size container, so don't be in a rush with this one to make it a bonsai too fast.

As far as styles are concerned. Take a look at this tiny bonsai. It does a great job of suggesting a wisteria or willow The trailing branches and the foliage that seems to grow in fountains.
